I am reading a collection of Hemingway’s short stories, called The Hemingway Stories and will post my quick thoughts about each story.

Up in Michigan
A story, in my interpretation, about the problem of unrequited love told through a depiction of sexual assault.

Other short stories I’ve read not in The Hemingway Stories

The Capital of the World
Basically, a study of the various ways people fail in life. This story is brilliant. Such a truism that it is hard to succeed in life and that most of us fail in most aspects of life. There is an illusion about what life could be like if we achieve our dreams, but that illusion is often not realistic. And, when this happens, the optimism of our youth just dies.

On the Quai at Smyrna
Disjointed. Brutal. Not pleasant to read. Hard to understand. And, that is the point. War is miserable.
