  • Some N.F.L. Players Are Finding Second Careers as Nurses - The New York Times

The path from a bone-crunching contact sport to a healing profession may seem odd at first, said Patrick Hill, a former fullback and running back for the Tennessee Titans who described his roles as two of “the most violent positions on the field.”

But a football career is actually solid preparation for nursing, he explained; players learn “mental toughness and resiliency.”

  • Heist at Louvre Leaves Museum Missing Priceless Jewels - WSJ

Over the course of only seven minutes, three or four individuals used a truck-mounted elevator to reach a balcony outside the Galerie d’Apollon, which houses France’s crown jewels, French officials said. There, the thieves used an angle grinder to cut a hole in a window to get inside, they added.

The thieves smashed display cases, and early indications were that they took Napoleonic jewels and jewels related to French royalty, a police official said. The thieves fled via the roads along the Seine River, the official added.

  • 2025 Empire State Pen Show - Recap and Report Card — The Pen Addict

The 2025 Empire State Pen Show scored 72.5/100, which is pretty good given that it’s the first show. Being in Midtown Manhattan made the Location and Food scores higher than a lot of other shows. The Size score might go up if they added more vendors, and the After Hours score definitely has room for improvement. The biggest drawback to this show, if you’re not local, is the cost of travel and lodging

  • Ohtani’s 3 HRs, 10-K gem spark Dodgers' NLCS sweep of Brewers - ESPN

“It’s like we’re the Chicago Bulls,” Betts said, “and he’s Michael Jordan.”

Betts was referring, of course, to Shohei Ohtani, who had once again put together a performance many of his peers described as the greatest in baseball history. On the mound, he pitched six scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters. In the batter’s box, he clobbered three home runs, one of which might have left the ballpark entirely. And when it was over, and the Dodgers had clinched a second straight pennant on an Ohtani-fueled, 5-1 victory in Game 4 of the NLCS, his teammates once again struggled to make sense of it.
